15.10.2024 No second Galileo case: Why the Bible says nothing about homosexuality
Galileo Galilei was condemned by the church in the 17th century because his doctrine of the Copernican world view (the earth as a planet revolving around the sun) allegedly contradicted the Bible. In 1992, Pope John Paul II rehabilitated Galileo, stating that the problem was not science, but the interpretation of the Bible. The case should not be repeated when it comes to knowledge about human sexuality, especially homosexuality. It can be shown that the Old and New Testaments do not recognise this concept and therefore do not condemn it. Nevertheless, the Bible provides important impulses for today’s debates. In any case, the Bible does not stand in the way of a new version of church teaching on the subject of homosexuality. The event is being organised in cooperation with the Heinrich-Pesch-Haus, Catholic Academy Rhine-Neckar. Venue: Heinrich-Pesch-Haus, Catholic Academy Rhine-Neckar, Frankenthaler Str. 229, 67059 Ludwigshafen
